Odisha women lose three matches in a row

Odisha squandered good start to go down to Bengal by 38 runs in their third league match of the East Zone Senior Women Inter-State Cricket Tournament at Guwahati (Assam) today. Winners Bengal collected three points, while Odisha settled with one point.

This was the third defeat in a row for Odisha, which earlier lost to Assam and Tripura by five wickets and 21 runs respectively. They will play their last league match against Jharkhand on November 12.

Electing to bat, Bengal rode on an unbeaten 60 by Mandira Mahapatra to make 157 for six in the stipulated 50 overs. Priyanka Sahu was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging three wickets for 33 runs, while international Rasanara Parbin picked up two wickets for 34 runs.

In reply, Odisha got off to a good start with international Madhuri Meheta and skipper Madhusmita Behera putting on 37 runs for the opening wicket. But thereafter, they lost wickets in regular intervals to be restricted to 119 for eight wickets in the stipulated overs. Madhusmita top scored with 28, while Jyoti Barik remained unbeaten on 27.
